A Plain-English Guide to Jeans Fits

Jeans names can be confusing: straight, wide, barrel, mom. In practice you only need to understand three things: the rise, the leg shape and the amount of stretch.

Rise

The rise is the distance from the crotch seam to the waistband. A high rise sits at or above your natural waist, mid rise sits a few inches below, and low rise sits on the hips. Choose the one that feels comfortable when you sit down, not just when you stand.

Leg shape

Skinny jeans follow the leg closely. Straight jeans keep the same width from knee to hem. Wide leg jeans flare out for a relaxed look. There is no single right shape; pick what suits your style and the shoes you wear.

Before you order

Caring for denim

Wash inside out, in cold water, and wash less often than other clothes. This helps keep the colour and shape for longer.
