A capsule wardrobe is a small set of clothes that mix and match easily. The goal is not to own as little as possible, but to wear more of what you own. Here is a simple way to start.
Start with your real week
List what you actually do in a normal week: work, errands, exercise, evenings out. Build around those hours, not around an imaginary life. If you rarely dress up, a capsule should be mostly comfortable, repeatable pieces.
Pick a colour base
Choose two or three neutral colours that you like next to your face, such as navy, cream, grey or black, then add one or two accent colours. When everything shares a palette, almost any top works with any bottom.
A starter list
- Two or three tops that suit your usual weather, such as tees and a lightweight knit.
- Two bottoms: one pair of jeans and one pair of relaxed trousers or a skirt.
- One layer for cooler days, such as a cardigan or jacket.
- One dress or outfit for the occasions that need a little more effort.
- Comfortable shoes that go with all of it.
Add slowly
Wear the starter pieces for a few weeks and notice the gaps. Buy to fill a gap, not because of a sale. Check size charts and return policies before you order, because fit varies between brands.
